Yale carries out its mission “through the free exchange of ideas in an ethical, interdependent, and diverse community.” Reflect on a time when you exchanged ideas about an important issue with someone holding an opposing view. How did the experience lead you either to change your opinion or to sharpen your reasons for holding onto it?
2. Reflect on a time when you have worked to enhance a community to which you feel connected. Why have these efforts been meaningful to you? You may define community however you like.

耶鲁的题目在实质上跟达特茅斯极为相近,其实都让人有些怀疑,这两所藤校是不是约好了同时放题的吧?在耶鲁的提问之中,则把关注的重心更放在了学术的兴趣之上,而这也非常符合耶鲁对于学术的高标准、严要求。
尤其是在回答第一题:“描述叁个你感兴趣的学术领域”时,大家一定要记住,如果你只是简单的回答了“经济、地理、人文”等等这样宽泛的方向,一定是不符合要求的。一个更好的答案可能是“18世纪英国女性作家在争取平等选举权之中发挥的影响力”,或者是“量子力学双缝实验如何减少变量准确观测“等等极其具体、并且能反映出你对该领域广博知识的命题。
第二小问,在描述这个学术领域为什么启发了你、影响了你的时候,同学们也注意一定要拿出自己的学术范儿,穿透学术领域之中的核心。我们可以把它想象为一个简单的research proposal,例如:在讨论你对于18世纪女性作家在平权方面的贡献时,一定要深入到具体哪一位女性的foundational work,或者某一篇文章之中促成了paradigm shift的观点,你认为是被学术界所低估的?有没有哪些亟待解决的疑点和研究方向,是你期待利用耶鲁的资源来完成的?
而耶鲁最难攻克的题目则无疑是35字的短问答。在写这篇文章时,我们可以利用的一个小窍门是:先写一个更长的、100到200字的版本,从中精简和浓缩你的内容。这一篇文章虽然只有35字,但它所需要体现的广度、深度和维度一定需要更大体量的内容来承担。因此,从一篇更长的文章来进行缩减,就能得到更好的写作效果。
